Save Africa's Children's Family Circle
10/23/2009 During my recent trip to Lusaka, Zambia, approximately 300 miles from Victoria Falls (one of the seven natural wonders of the world) is a vacant building and a loving, hard-working community caring for orphaned children with meager resources.There were several family circles of women engaged in various micro-enterprises to support themselves and the orphan children in their care. One circle of women knitted school uniform sweaters and doormats. Another group, comprised of HIV-positive women with children, made sausages, handbags, jewelry and many other products. Like any other small business, these entrepreneurs require capital, customers and space to make their products.
With your help we can transform a vacant, underutilized building into a factory of hope and empowerment for women in an impoverished community caring for orphans and vulnerable children. At Save Africa’s Children, our capacity-building programs assist guardians to assess their assets, build on them, and increase their ability to be productive generators of income.

Your gift of $25 or more will house these infant enterprises in one location — “The Business Incubator” — where they can share resources such as, a copier, accounting services, computers, consulting, and other services to grow their businesses. Within three years these enterprises should grow large enough to sustain themselves, the orphaned children in their care, and expand to make room for the next infant enterprise.
Your financial support will help restore the vacant building and house both the sausage makers and rows of sewing machines that are sitting in boxes because there is no place to put them. It will also house sinks, counter tops and tile floors that can be cleaned and sterilized for sausage production.
